Wacoku Bogu Kendo Protector Set

A Kendo Protector set (Bogu) consists of multiple different parts. There is the helmet or headguard (the Men), a breast plate or chest protector (a Do), a hip protector ( a Tarre) and lastly the gloves/arm protectors (the Kote). The name for the entire set is Bogu, which literally translates to “protector”. 

This Bogu is designed to protect you during sparring sessions, but on specific places there has been extra padding added, like the inside of the Men and the Kote. Different materials are used for the different parts of the Bogu, like reinforced cotton, leather and also hardened polycarbonate. 

The Bogu is typically used during sparring and trainingsessions, but also during Kendo competitions. During which a Shinai is used to try and hit on specific body parts. The attacker has to call out which body part is being targeted, if they do not call out the (right) body part, then the hit will not be counted as a point, even if it did hit the part.
