The Naginata was once designed as a weapon to keep people at bay. Initially it was widely used by soldiers who were very impressed by the effectiveness of this weapon. Later is was mainly used by women who had to defend the house during their husband's absence. Because of its length, it was easy to keep people or riders at a distance without needing a lot of power
